Burnout To Breakthrough: The Freedom Blueprint with Josh Kerpan
What happens when the farm you've worked so hard to build becomes the very thing that keeps you from enjoying your life?
In this episode of The Impact Farming Show, Tracy sits down with Josh Kerpan, farmer, success coach, author and owner of Kerpan Farms and Kaizen Solutions.
Josh farms a large-scale operation in Saskatchewan while also coaching farmers and blue-collar business owners across North America. His work focuses on the connection between the person running the business and the business itself… particularly how identity, leadership, systems and mindset can either create freedom or keep someone trapped.
Josh is also the author of Burnout To Breakthrough: The Freedom Blueprint, a book about transforming your business from a burden into a blessing.
In this conversation, Josh gets real about something many farmers experience but don't always talk about: the identity of being the person who has to do everything.
Because being the farmer who can fix everything, make every decision and carry the weight of the operation can feel like a strength. But at some point, that same identity can become the thing that prevents the farm, and the farmer, from moving forward.
In this episode, we talk about:
- Josh's journey as a farmer and how Kaizen Solutions came to be
- Why he decided to become a coach while continuing to operate a farm
- The inspiration behind Burnout To Breakthrough: The Freedom Blueprint
- Josh's personal experience of building the life he dreamed about and still feeling stuck
- How a farmer's identity can become a barrier to growth
- Why being the person who “gets it done” can eventually become a trap
- What it means to transform a farm business from a burden to a blessing
- Why knowing what you should do doesn't always translate into actually doing it
- What happens when the farm grows faster than the farmer's identity
- Moving from being the operator of the farm to becoming the leader of the business
- Why some farmers struggle to let go of being indispensable
- Whether bigger really is better in agriculture
- How farmers can define success on their own terms
- What to do when you're financially successful but personally exhausted
- The first step toward creating your own breakthrough
In this episode, Josh challenges farmers to think differently about what they're building and, more importantly, why they're building it.
Because the goal shouldn't simply be to build a bigger farm.
It's to build a farm that supports the life you actually want to live.
Thanks for tuning in,
Tracy
