Ron Olson
Senior Agronomist, The Sulphur Institute (TSI)

 

Mr. Olson serves as The Sulphur Institute’s agronomist, joining TSI following a 45-year career as an independent consulting agronomist for 30 years and 15 years with Cargill and The Mosaic Company. His agronomic consulting company worked directly with farmers and Ag retailers offering custom soil sampling and soil analysis, and crop management expertise. It was one of the early Ag consulting companies to enter the market in the early 1970’s. The company pioneered the implementation of using precision ag tools for taking soil samples on a 2.5 acre grid, converting that data to computer maps and linking that data to GPS/GIS technology to develop crop management programs to achieve maximum economic yields. With Cargill and Mosaic he served as Research and Development Manager and led the team that developed the MicroEssentials™ suite of products. MicroEssentials™ has grown to become the leading commercial sulphur enhanced fertilizer sold globally.

Dr. Shamie Zingore
Director of Research and Development for the African Plant Nutrition Institute (APNI)

 

Director of Research and Development for the African Plant Nutrition Institute (APNI). He is based in headquarters at Benguérir, Morocco.

Dr. Zingore’s main research interests focus on soil fertility and soil organic matter management, farming systems analysis and nutrient use and cycling in crop production systems. Shamie has maintained a strong interest in application of crop-soil models and decision support systems to improve recommendations for fertilizer and soil fertility management. He has authored 47 scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals, and has produced a wide range of book chapters and extension publications. He has also supervised numerous M.Sc. and Ph.D. students.

Rob Mikkelsen
Director, Agronomic Services, YARA

 

Rob Mikkelsen joined Yara in early 2021 as the new Director of Agronomy. Prior to Yara, Rob was the Director of the African Plant Nutrition Institute (APNI). Rob holds numerous scholarly and professional honors, the latest being the Leadership Award from the 2021 Western Nutrient Management Conference, as well as many publications within the fertilizer industry. His experience is extensive within the industry and includes years with International Plant Nutrition Institute (IPNI), Potash & Phosphate Institute and North Carolina State University. Rob holds a Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy/Soils and a PhD in Soil Science.

Mike Howell
Nutrien Senior Agronomist



Growing up on a university research farm, Mike Howell developed an interest in agriculture at a young age. While active in 4-H as a child, Howell learned to appreciate agriculture and the programs that would shape his career. Howell holds a Bachelor of Science degree in soil science and a Master of Science degree in entomology from Mississippi State University. He has more than 20 years of experience conducting applied research and delivering educational programs to help make producers more profitable. He takes pride in promoting agriculture in all levels of industry, especially with the younger generation.
