September is Suicide Prevention Month — an opportunity to raise awareness, reduce stigma and, most importantly, strengthen our ability to support one another. In agriculture, looking out for one another has always been part of being a strong community. Suicide prevention is no different. Knowing how to recognize when someone may be struggling, start a conversation, listen without judgment and connect someone with support can make a difference.
This month, we’re highlighting resources and opportunities to help you build those skills and keep mental health conversations going in your community.
And remember: If you or someone you know is struggling, call or text the national Suicide Crisis helpline 988, or call the National Farmer Crisis Line 24/7 at 1-866-327-6701 (1-866-FARMS01).
Join us on World Suicide Prevention Day
On September 10, World Suicide Prevention Day, Ag Care Connect is hosting a free virtual Talk Ask Listen workshop to support community understanding and engagement.
Talk Ask Listen is The Do More Agriculture Foundation’s flagship workshop designed to help people across agriculture build the courage and confidence to talk about mental health, support someone who may be struggling, and connect them with appropriate resources. This 90-minute virtual session will feature the Lightning version of the workshop, followed by time for questions, discussion and conversation.
Keep the conversation going this fall
Suicide prevention doesn’t end when September does. On October 29, we are partnering with Abridge Consulting for Start the Conversation: Suicide Awareness in Our Community — an opportunity to continue building understanding, confidence and connection around suicide prevention.
