Episode 221: Balancing Conservation & Property Rights with Sarah Falen Tate

In this week’s episode, Tracy speaks to Sarah Falen Tate from Wild West Advocacy about “Balancing Conservation & Property Rights.”

In this episode, Tracy and Sarah discuss:

  • Sarah’s deep family roots in ranching, advocacy, and fighting for the property rights of ranchers.
  • Tracy asks Sarah if land ownership and property rights are under attack.
  • Sarah shares her thoughts on land ownership, property rights, conservation, and the attack on farmland.
  • In this episode, Tracy and Sarah dive deep into five areas of concern regarding property rights. They chat about:
    • Energy companies: We discuss the forceful use of eminent domain that some states and energy projects have seen in the US.
    • Conversation programs - Do you have acres enrolled in a conversation program? If so, you won’t want to miss this.
    • Land trusts - What are land trusts, how do they work, and why are they used?
    • Endangered Species Act—Do you remember the wolves being released in Colorado? We chat about this heated topic. Are local farmers happy with the wolves being released? What are the dangers? Can this raise endangered species act & property right concerns? Sarah shares horrifying stories about other locations where wolves have been released, the damage they have done to wildlife and livestock, and how residents fear for their pets and their children’s lives.
    • Natural Asset Companies - What are NACs, and what just happened a few months back? This one is alarming.

Sarah shares some final advice for farmers with land in conversation programs or those considering entering their land into conservation programs.

You will want to catch this episode if you own or lease government land.

Sarah Falen Tate

I am a fifth generation Wyoming ranch kid living in Cheyenne Wyoming. I got two undergraduate degrees from the University of Wyoming, one in Agriculture Communication and one in Environment and Natural Resources – I got those degrees in 2017. I went to the University of Wyoming Law School and graduated with my Juris Doctorate in 2021.

I started working for my family’s Law Firm, Budd-Falen Law Offices, but realized that I enjoyed agriculture advocacy in other ways other than just litigating.

I started using social medial to educate people about legal issues within the agriculture and natural resources industries. I started Wild West Advocacy in October 2022.

I advocate, give speeches use social media to reach those not affiliated with agriculture regarding the issues that I talk about.

One thing nobody can deny about me is that I am passionate. I am passionate about faith, family, freedom, agriculture and industry. Maybe I was born this way, but more likely, it all started in my upbringing.
